Bangkok Glass desperate for first victory

- TOR CHITTINAND

Bangkok Glass would want to give their Thai League 1 campaign some semblance of stability when they host Si Sa Ket tonight.

Si Sa Ket, however, are equally anxious for a win at Leo Stadium with their coach Dusit Chalermsaen feeling the heat after two straight losses.

The Glass Rabbits, third last year, are currently in the 15th place in the league standings with only one point, while Si Sa Ket are at the bottom of the table.

Amnaj Kaewkew, the former Bangkok Glass skipper who is now one of the team’s staff coaches, said: “We have several injured players but we still hope to get three points and pick up our first victory of the season.

“We did not start the season very well, losing our first match and drawing the second. We must win this game.”

Si Sa Ket assistant coach Chaitat Silaso said: “Although we have lost the first two matches of the season, our board still supports Dusit Chalermsaen. We are hoping to win this match and ease the pressure on everyone.”

Meanwhile, Thailand coach Kiatisak Senamuang is planning to call up more than 23 players for training ahead of the national team’s World Cup qualifier against Saudi Arabia on March 23.

Kiatisak, looking forward to the home match at Rajamangala National Stadium, said: “We are waiting for the sixth week

of Thai League 1 to finish on March 12 to announce the names of the national team players.

“We may call more than 23 players and have as many as 30 players in the training camp. We have been observing a number of players in the local leagues.

“This is what we did before the match against Australia last year when we brought in some new players like Natsapol Malaphan, Jenrop Sampaodee and Siwapong Charoensil to join the training camp.

“This is a home game so we can delay sending the names of the final 23 players to the AFC until a day before the match.”

Thailand are currently in last place of Group B of the final phase of Asian qualifiers for the 2018 World Cup in Russia with only one point from a draw against Australia. They have so far played five matches.

Kiatisak yesterday visited injured Thailand and SCG Muang Thong United midfielder Sarach Yooyen at Bangkok General Hospital.
