DE Ministry eyes new digital staff
The Digital Economy and Society (DE) Ministry this year plans to recruit 100 people with digital skills and capabilities required for the digital era as part of the state’s digital transformation efforts.
Most of the first batch of digital talent will be sent to work at the Digital Economy Promotion Agency (Depa), formerly known as Sipa, which is under the umbrella of the DE Ministry, to help develop hard and soft infrastructure.
“The development is essential to foster the specialist digital skills enabling our workforce to be prepared for a truly digital operating environment, as well as collaborate more effectively with other ministries,” said DE Minister Pichet Durongkaveroj.
The cabinet last month approved the DE Ministry’s digital talent recruitment plan.
Mr Pichet said the digital talent would be working on a contract basis, with an extension dependent on individual performance, unlike normal permanent full-time employment.
The digital workforce will be divided into two groups: officials with specific digital skills and highly skilled digital experts.
Monthly salaries including incentives for digital talent will range from 37,680 to 218,400 baht, depending on the level of digital literacy and an individual’s overall capabilities.
Salaries for those with specific digital skills will range from 37,680 to 68,350 baht a month.
Highly skilled digital experts will see starting salaries from 109,200 to 218,400 baht a month.
Existing officials from any state agencies who have digital skills will be allowed to apply for a position, Mr Pichet said.
The DE Ministry and the state agencies under the DE Ministry are working out the various roles and qualifications for the digital skills workforce.
“The recruitment process for digital talent, either by direct persuasion or through normal hiring methods, will start from May this year,” Mr Pichet said.
The next round for recruiting digital talent will begin in 2018 to serve the development of the country’s digital ecosystem.
