Red summer soles

- — Parisa Pichitmarn

The name Christian Louboutin need not be limited to the image of sexy and voluptuous. This French name may evoke daydreams of sky-high stilettos, with the shape of strikingly-thin heels and sharp, spiky studs to match, but last night’s global launch saw a new kind of Louboutin kick to lust after.

If it’s not their red-carpet-ready footwear that will get your money, it may just be their new beach-ready flats. Besides the thin, elongated red footprint that this luxury foot wear creates, this summer, you’ll be seeing a much more block-like sole inspired by Tetris that the sandals feature.

For the very first time, women will get to wear the lug soles that have been a hit with the men’s line two seasons ago. Toss out any notions that they will be heavy to lug around, as these lightweight sandals have soles made of rubber — and also in pastel bubble-gum colours. In this move towards more practical grounds, the shoe giant is obviously trying to generate a name recall beyond glamazon events, in addition to their attempts to become a name that appeals to both him and her.

With our warm weather all-year-long, there will be more than enough occasions to strut around in the Lego pieces. The main styles that will be highlighted this season include gladiators and sandals that come in soft metallics and are made from a radiant array of different materials, such as ultra-soft suede and nappa.

Rocknbuckle is your gladiator answer that works both day or night, thanks to its silver and gold tones. With white pyramid studs sitting on top of the white strip, it creates just the right amount of contrast to the Dolly pink sole and other “pastel-ish” vibes.

If you need more splash, Miss Roma delivers a sparkle of geometric jewellery atop patent leather in holographic colours. With contrasting ankle straps and a flower print on the grained calf leather along the foot bed, it’s nothing short of eye-catching despite adding no inches to your total look.

Of course, there will be spikes, although some come translucent to reflect the rosy undertone of the strap underneath.

The campaign photography is shot by Pauline Brami and the actual flat temptations are available at the Louboutin boutique at Central Embassy.
