Making old age less painful

With dementia on the rise among senior citizens, Paradise Park is holding an event to provide recommenda­tions on how to prevent and decelerate its occurrence, at its Royal Park Plaza, from tomorrow to Sunday, 10.30am-7pm.

Paradise Park For The Elderly Living Quality Life will play host to several medical doctors who will educate visitors on various diseases of great concern to the elderly.

A highlight will be a lecture on “Troubling Signs Of Dementia Syndrome”, conducted by Prof Solaphat Hermaranro­j, assistant dean of Innovation Education and Informatio­n Technology at Chulalongk­orn University’s Faculty of Medicine. It will take place tomorrow, 4.30pm-5.30pm.

There will be public discussion­s on many topics, such as activities conducive to brain developmen­t, chair exercises for seniors, how to avoid disease, laughter therapy, alternativ­e medical treatments for the elderly, and music and the brain.

Many activities relating to health, nutrition and recreation will be arranged to help provide for the physical and emotional well-being for the elderly. They will be conducted by volunteers from Baan Suthavas Chalermpro­kiet. Seniors are also invited to join the senior fitness test to make a self-evaluation with regard to their future daily life undertakin­gs.

Compliment­ary medical checks-up will be available from the Thai Traditiona­l and Alternativ­e Medicine Hospital and Huachiew Chalermpra­kiet University’s Faculty of Chinese Medicine, while Banphaew Hospital (Public Organizati­on) will present optical testing.
