Pavit ahead as May Myo bags women’s title
>> RAYONG: Pavit Tangkamolprasert widened his lead to four shots at the Singha Championship as Myanmar’s Yin May Myo became the first foreigner to win a women’s event on the All Thailand Golf Tour yesterday.
The 21-year-old May Myo closed with a 74 to claim the 54-hole women’s event by three strokes with a five-over 218 total, finishing ahead of Chommapat Phongthanarak (221) and Pinrath Loomboonruang (222).
Meanwhile, Pavit carded a fiveunder 66 at the par-71 Rayong Green Valley Country Club with seven birdies and two bogeys to lead on 196.
Chasing the 27-year-old leader from Bangkok is 2016 rookie of the year Chanachok Dejpiratanamongkok, who posted a third-round 67 with five birdies and one bogey and was second on 200 at the second tour event of the season.
“It was quite tough for me after a bout of food poisoning and I felt really exhausted,” Pavit said.
“I was off to a poor start with two bogeys and the turning point came when I fired six birdies in a row. I got a bit lucky on some holes though.”
Pannakorn Uthaipas (68) was three strokes down further on 10-under 203, while England’s Simon Griffiths (70) was on nine-under 204.
Thanpisit Omsin (68) and Udorn Duangdecha (69) were tied for fifth on 205, nine strokes behind the leader.
Former champion Chapchai Nirat had a 70 for seven-under 206 and was tied for seventh with Pasavee Lertvilai (67) and Wuthipong Seehapunt (71).
Thanyakorn Khrongpha (68) was on six-under-207, followed by Prayad Marksaeng (70), a shot behind.
Defending champion Namchok Tantipokhakul (69) was on 209 and Danthai Boonma was joint 19th on three-under 213 with Pawin Ingkhapradit (69) and Gunn Charoenkul (67).
