Dressing the dream

- — Kanin Srimaneekulroj

If you’re one of those women with so many dresses you don’t even know where to put them, donate them for a good cause at the “HABITO x Dress The Dream”, a charity clothes-drive focused mainly on women’s gowns and dresses taking place this upcoming weekend at the Habito lifestyle community mall near On Nut.

Held in collaboration with the American Embassy as well as charity project Dress the Dream, the event will allow attendees to drop off any unwanted dresses they may have, which will then be rented out by the charity through their online platform. Profits generated from these rentals will be given to charities or humanitarian foundations of the dress owner’s choosing.

Currently, the site has two partner organisations — The Guidelight, a charity focused on providing assistance to students with visual impairments, and ForOldy, which is focused on supporting elders in rural communities — but the organisers said they will be announcing more participating charities in the future.

Besides the satisfaction of contributing to a worthy cause, attendees can also enjoy the various activities at the event, including a celebrity clothes auction by the likes of Nattaporn “Taew” Tameeruks and Oh-Futon, among others, as well as a panel discussion with Miss Universe Thailand 2015 Aniporn “Nat” Chalermburanawong about women in the new generation.

After you’ve made some space in your closet with your donations, you can fill them back up again at the event with products from more than 40 leading fashion brands, who will be opening store booths at the event. You can then commemorate your generous donations (or the pretty new pieces you picked up at the event) at the nearby “Women Portraits 2017” photo studio, join HUBBA-TO’s “Blissful Head Tie” DIY workshop or even break a sweat with RSM Academy’s basic Thai boxing classes. Or, if none of these things sounds interesting enough, you can simply come and be serenaded by the sweet, sweet vocals of Sin Singular.

If you can’t make it to the community mall this weekend, you can still donate to the cause at the Habito mall until May 27, as well as at any ATT Skyboxes, found at BTS stations. If you’re going to part with your precious clothes, may as well do it for a good cause right?
