Acclaimed Germanic films showing at Paragon Cineplex
A selection of nine internationally acclaimed highlights of contemporary German cinema will premiere in Thailand during the “German Film Week 2017” at Paragon Cineplex in Siam Paragon, Rama I, from tomorrow to Sunday.
Organised by the Goethe Institute in collaboration with the Thai Film Archive, the fifth edition of the film week is an opportunity for film enthusiasts to catch a diverse selection of German films that have recently been screened at festivals all over the world.
They include Berlin Syndrome which will keep you on tenterhooks from beginning to end, Herbert that tells the emotionally stirring story of a terminally-ill ex-boxer and won several awards and has received rave reviews, Fritz Lang, a black-and-white film shot with old techniques to authentically depict the life of the great filmmaker Fritz Lang, and the classic M, one of Lang’s most famous works.
The line-up also features Wild, which centres around a rebellious young woman who breaks the tacit contract with civilisation and decides on a life without hypocrisy, and 24 Weeks, which was selected to compete for the Golden Bear at the 66th Berlin International Film Festival. Three other interesting movies are Toni Erdmann, a father-daughter tragi-comedy that has received immense international praise and won the European and German film awards; Pettersson And Findus, a family film telling the adventures of a grumpy old farmer and his cat; and Goodby Berlin, a comedy about two young teenage boys with a stolen car and the road trip that will probably change their lives.
There will be two screenings daily at 7pm and 9.30pm, plus a 5pm show on Saturday and Sunday. All films have both English and Thai subtitles. Tickets cost 120 and 150 baht.
