Former coach Kiatisak finds nothing new in Rajevac picks

- Tor ChiTTinand

Former coach Kiatisak Senamuang has claimed that players called up by his successor Milovan Rajevac for a five-day encampment are almost the same as those selected by him during his time in charge of the Thai team.

Thailand are in the process of selecting a 23-member final squad for an away warmup match with Uzbekistan on June 6 and a World Cup qualifier against the United Arab Emirates in Bangkok a week later.

Kiatisak said after being appointed as the new ‘Friends of Unicef’ ambassador on Wednesday: “There is not much difference between my teams and the 35 probables called up by Rajevac.”

“Every coach has different ideas. I didn’t pick Teerathep Winothai because I focused on players aged 20-22 to build a strong foundation for the future,” he added while praising Rajevac as a very dedicated and experienced coach.

Kiatisak, who quit as Thailand coach in February, said he would continue playing his part in developing the Thai youth.

“I have been contacted by many teams in Malaysia and Indonesia but I don’t want to go. I just want the Thai national teams qualify to play in the World Cup finals, especially the U17 and U19 sides. However, I can’t say anything about the future.”

Meanwhile, Thailand striker Sirod Chatthong yesterday agreed to a move to SCG Muang Thong United. The official announcement of the deal was expected soon.

Ubon UMT striker Sirod underwent a medical check-up yesterday morning and was given a clean bill of health.

Sirod said: “I would be very happy to be a part of a team who have won the Thai league title four times. In fact, I had been hoping for a breakthrough like this for a long time.”
