Japanese piano duo Tetsu Mashiko and Masaki Nishihara will make a comeback to give a two-piano recital in memory of HM King Rama IX at Sala Sudasiri Sobha, Lat Phrao 41, this Sunday at 4pm.

Presented by the Gift of Life Foundation, the concert will open with two King Bhumibol compositions — Never Mind The Hungry Men’s Blues and Oh I Say — arranged for two pianos by Japanese artist Mikinari Miyao.

Then the programme will feature a mixture of arrangements of jazz movie music and lighthearted repertoire arranged for two pianos, including music by leading British composers Madeleine Dring and Sir Richard Rodney Bennett, in the first half of the programme.

The second half will feature pieces by world-renowned American composers, including Scott Joplin’s Strenuous Life, George Gershwin’s By Strauss, Virginia Morley and Livingston Gearhart’s Baby Boogie, Morton Gould’s Boogie Woogie Etude, Vernon Duke’s April In Paris, Hoagy Carmichael’s Star Dust, and Cole Porter’s Night And Day and Begin The Beguine.

Celebrated pianists Mashiko and Nishihara formed their partnership in 2001 and have so far performed over 150 concerts in Japan. They are among the familiar faces in the classical music scene in Thailand, having regularly performed a duo piano recital at different venues across Bangkok.

Tickets cost 700 baht including a reception. Proceeds will go towards the Gift of Life Foundation to help blood-disease patients in Thailand.
