COMMANDING TIME
Marking the 50th, 40th and 20th anniversaries of three James Bond movies, Omega has released Seamaster Diver 300M “Commander’s Watch” in 7,007 pieces as a reference to the code name of Ian Fleming’s fictional British secret agent.
The Commander’s Watch salutes the ensign colours of the British Royal Navy, with touches of white, blue and red creating a suave and stately look.
The inspiration came from Bond’s rank and regalia, and his appearance in official military uniform in the three films: You Only Live Twice (1967), The Spy Who Loved Me (1977) and Tomorrow Never Dies (1997) respectively starring Sean Connery, Roger Moore and Pierce Brosnan.
The Swiss brand’s relationship with the movie franchise began in 1995, when Brosnan as the new 007 wore an Omega in Golden Eye (1995). The Seamaster was the watch of choice for costume designer, Linda Hemming, because Commander Bond is a naval man and a diver.
Originally released in 1957, the Seamaster 300 actually has military ties as it was issued to naval divers, including those under the MoD — UK’s Ministry of Defence.
The limited-edition Seamaster Diver 300M Commander’s Watch is housed in a 41mm stainless steel case with the blue ceramic bezel, featuring a Liquidmetal diving scale and red rubber covering the first 15 minutes.
In the same colour scheme, skeleton hands circle the polished white ceramic dial with a window indicating the date in red. Unique features include the 007 gun logo counterweight on the red central seconds hand, and on the rotor with “three stripes” of the Commander’s naval insignia revealed on the wave-edged caseback.
Powered by the Calibre 2507, the model offers interchangeable stainless steel bracelet and Nato strap with its fivestripe pattern in blue, red and grey, presented in a box inspired by a military medal case.
Additionally, the Commander’s Watch also comes in an 18K yellow gold model, limited to seven pieces. Check out Omega collections at its boutiques in Central Embassy, Siam Paragon and the Emporium.
