Aspiring singers sought in RBSO search
The hugely successful “RBSO Search For Talent Vocal Competition” returns with Season 2 which is open to young singers of any nationality aged from eight to 16.
Interested singers are invited to post to YouTube songs from the Broadway/ West End/Hollywood musical theatre repertoire in order to enter the first part of the selection process. Songs from cartoon features are permissible, as are popular or jazz numbers, so long as they are associated directly with a particular musical or show.
The entry specification doesn’t include classical songs, lieder, or traditional or pop Thai songs. Only one song submission per candidate is required for assessment. Entrants must be free of any contract with record labels, unless they can provide documents of exemption allowing them to participate in this competition. For non-Thai contestants, they must have parents with legal residency in the Kingdom.
Recordings should be a realistic representation of the contestants’ abilities, shot in one single take with no editing, dubbing, or other studio enhancement of the song. The performances may be either accompanied or unaccompanied.
Uploads to YouTube should be made by Sept 30. A total of 30 top candidates will be chosen, half of them in the age group between eight and 12 and the other half between 13 and 16. They will be informed of their qualification for the following live performance round on Oct 15.
The live performance round will be held on Nov 11, in front of an expert panel of three professional judges at Chulalongkorn University. The four winners will perform with the Royal Bangkok Symphony Orchestra during the annual “Concert In The Park” series at Lumpini Park which attracts thousands of audiences each year.
