Thais in front in SE Asia events

Thailand dominated the second day’s action at the 2017 Southeast Asian Golf Team Championsh­ips in Indonesia yesterday.

The Kingdom’s golfers led all eight events of the four Cups at Gading Raya Padang Golf & Klub in Serpong.

Kosuke Hamamoto, Kammalas Namuangruk, Wichayanon Chothirunr­ungrueng and Sadom Kaewkanjan­a combined to match overnight Putra Cup leaders Singapore at the top after the second round.

The two teams were tied on 34-under 398 (201-197) while Indonesia were third on 418. Thailand were one shot behind Singapore after the first round.

Hamamoto (64) also surged to the top of the individual event on 15-under 129. Singapore’s Marc Ong (65) and Sadom (66) were tied for second on 12-under 132. Overnight leader Joshua Ho of Singapore slipped to joint fourth on 11-under 133.

In the Santi Cup, the Thai women stayed on top with a total score of 15-under 273 (135-138), one shot ahead of Indonesia (141-133). Manuschaya Zeemakorn set pace in the individual event after shooting a three-under 69 for 10-under 134, three ahead of Indonesia’s Patricia Sinolungan who had a 67. Teammate Atthaya Thitikul (69) was third on 139.

In the Lion City Cup (boys U17), Atiruj Winaicharo­enchai (69) and Ranchanapo­ng Yooprayong (70) were tied on top in the individual event on seven-under 137. Wanchai Luangnitik­ul was third on 140 after a 68. They also led the team event on 16-under 272, 10 shots ahead of Malaysia and Indonesia.

In the Kartini Cup (girls U17), Thailand also led the team event on 11-under 277, five shots ahead of Malaysia. Third-placed Indonesia were five shots further back on 287.

Thanrada Piddon shot a 67 to lead the individual event on 136, three ahead of Natasha Andreaon of Malaysia (69). Kan Banbodee, another Thai, was third on 141.
