New motorcycle app for Bangkok commuters

- AKIN

With just a few clicks, Bangkok commuters can now hail a motorcycle taxi, thanks to the newly launched UberMoto feature in the Uber app.

An on-demand motorbike service, UberMoto enables commuters to call for a motorcycle from the closest stand.

Siripa Jungsawat, general manager of Uber Thailand, said the company has collaborated with several of Bangkok’s local motorcycle-taxi stands in launching UberMoto.

“The service greatly fits a vibrant and fastpaced city like Bangkok, where a quick ride is always in demand. It is our pleasure to offer another convenient transportation-calling option for Thai riders,” she said.

To ride with UberMoto, open the Uber app and indicate the pickup and drop-off locations. Slide the service options to the right and choose UberMoto. Confirm the trip with UberMoto and the nearest vehicle will pick you up.

Uber is committed to the safety of riders and drivers before, during and after each UberMoto trip, all of which will be tracked by GPS. Meanwhile, the Share Your Trip function allows riders to share details of their ride with friends and family. Uber’s two-way feedback system will enable riders and drivers to rate each other.

Initially, UberMoto will be available in Bangkok’s downtown area, including Sathon, Silom and Asoke, but plans are already in motion to expand across the city.

Fares are calculated from the beginning of each ride based on distance and time to the destination. Rides start at 15 baht. The first 5K cost five baht per km. After that, the fare is 10 baht per km. An additional one baht per minute is also added to the total. Payment can be made either by cash or, through the app, by credit card.

To celebrate the launch, enter the promo code HIMOTO to enjoy three UberMoto rides with discounts of up to 50 baht, until Nov 30.
