Win 8 out of 8, Totchtawan asks champs
Kirins face Suphanburi, Buriram visit Si Sa Ket
>> Defending champions SCG Muang Thong United coach Totchtawan Sripan has told his men it’s time for them to make up for their earlier missteps by winning all their remaining eight Thai League 1 matches.
The Kirins travel to Suphanburi tomorrow and are targeting three points from the match.
Totchtawan said: “We are not pleased with the team’s performance during the second leg.
“We missed out on many points in many matches and have put ourselves under pressure as a result.
“Now, we have to make up for all those misses and cannot afford to let any points slip through our hands. We must win all the remaining eight matches.”
He added: “The game at Suphanburi will not be an easy one for us and we have no other choice but to get three points from it.
“We are six points behind Buriram but the most important thing for us now is to concentrate on own results.”
Sathaporn Wajakum, Suphanburi’s assistant coach, said: “We are a few places above the relegation zone, but aren’t safe yet.
“Actually, we started the season with high hopes but could not produce the expected results. There will be some big changes to the team after this season.
“The first thing for us now, however, is to take at least one point from Muang Thong United at our home ground. They are a good team with many international players.
“We will be without striker Dellatorre who is still injured but others are ready. We will try to put on an impressive show.”
Suphanburi would have to keep a tight vigil on Muang Thong’s in-form Brazilian duo of Leandro Assumpcao and Heberty Fernandes, who both scored a goal each in the Kirins’ convincing 3-0 win over Ratchaburi last weekend.
League leaders Buriram United will be involved in a northeastern derby with relegation contenders Si Sa Ket FC this evening.
Si Sa Ket are fresh from their 3-1 victory over bottom-ranked Super Power Samut Prakan last Sunday, when Buriram edged Chiang Rai United 1-0.
While Si Sa Ket have the full team available for this evening’s match following Dennis Silva’s return from suspension, the Thunder Castle should still be the overwhelming favourites for a victory.
Buriram manager Tatthep Pitakpoolsin said: “We must win all the remaining matches starting with today’s game against Si Sa Ket, although we are not expecting an easy outing.”
Si Sa Ket chairman Taneth Kuerat said: “It is not easy for us to beat a strong team like Buriram United but we will be playing at home so we can hope for a draw against them.”
