Late Thai street artist Mamafaka debuts at Show DC

-

The one-eyed gigantic monster Mr HellYeah created by the late Thai street artist Mamafaka will be displayed alongside his other masterpieces as part of the “Show DC X Rock On Radio Live Session: Art & Music” at Show DC’s Walk of Fame, Rama IX, from Saturday to Oct 1.

Mamafaka is the pseudonym of graphic designer/ illustrator Pharuephon Mukdasanit, whose iconic character “Mamafaka” is a source of inspiration for many.

On loan from the Mamafaka Gallery in Khon Kaen for the Bangkok showcase will be Mr HellYeah! Craftsman, a 2m-high furry monster with one eye and a thick moustache, which was conceived in 2013; and Mamafaka Vespa, a limited edition Vespa, which comes with a pair of gloves, a scarf and a helmet.

Other signature pieces include a Mr HellYeah photo frame and baseball bats, launched in 2012, Mamafaka skateboard from the “Preduce X MMFK Mr YellYeah! Deck Series” collection, which debuted in November 2011 and comprises six different styles, and the “Urface Collection Mr HellYeah! Limited Edition” by Mamafaka, which includes three pieces — tote bag, mini bag and wallet.

Available for sale will be 33 copies of the “Literoom X Mamafaka Hell Yeah Sailor Rabbit” postcards and posters, each of which are signed by the artist and come with a designated serial number; souvenirs exclusively produced for the exhibition; and the limited edition of Mamafaka cloth bags.

Proceeds will go to Mamafaka Gallery to support the preservation of the artist’s work.

On the last two days, a free concert will be performed by six of the country’s rising acts who will harmonise their tunes with art.

Safeplanet, Telex Telexs and De Flamingo will take to the stage on Sept 30 and Penny Time, Chanudom and Bomb at Track will perform on Oct 1, 5-8pm.

There is no admission fee. Visit showdc.co.th.
