SWEET TARTS ARE MADE OF THESE

TARR TARR BRINGS KOREAN TART GOODNESS TO BANGKOK

- STORY ERIC E SURBANO

There’s a vast array of places to go to satisfy your sweet tooth and that’s not going to change anytime soon. Don’t get us wrong, we’re definitely not complaining. Joining the dessert fray all the way from South Korea is Tarr Tarr, a worthy addition to Bangkok’s ever growing list of dessert places. Being its first foray outside South Korea, Tarr Tarr has been open for about two months and specialises in tarts, whether it be the hot kind or the dessert kind. But they’ve also got a variety of other items to offer as well that you can check out on the FB page (you can actually order online and pick it up from the shop).

One of the things we thoroughly enjoyed is its Soft serve (B90), which tastes like natural milk and has no frills or gimmicks. And really, you can’t beat a simple good ol’ fashioned soft serve. They’ve also got beverages like Italian sodas, but let’s face it, you’re probably visiting Tarr Tarr on dessert mode. It has got the Devil oreo shake (B180), aptly named because it’s aesthetically monstrous with near-to-overflowing whipped cream topped with pretzels and a whole ‘lotta chocolate pumped into it. That may sound a little too much, but we were surprised to discover that this drink actually had the right amount of chocolate. We also tried the Cherry mille-feuille (B250) which is crunchy and pretty messy when you’re eating it, but that didn’t stop us from digging in nor does it mean it wasn’t good.

Of course, we could never forget Tarr Tarr’s signature tarts. For the dessert tarts, you can go either fruity or chocolatey, and its customers seem to prefer the latter. And if you want to go against the crowd, we suggest you try the Peach tart (B180). If you choose the chocolate route, you can never go wrong with the Tiramisu tart (B180). Oh, and did we mention you can actually get these tarts in actual cake form? You just have to order them.

All in all, Tarr Tarr’s desserts are delicious and enjoyable, but the thing we loved about all of them was that they weren’t overwhelmingly sweet. Whether it was the tarts or the Devil oreo shake, there was just a right amount of sweetness, satisfying our sweet tooth but not to the extent that we’d be afraid of cavities or diabetes. So if you’re around Siam and looking for your sweet fix, Tarr Tarr’s got you.

Tarr Tarr is at Siam Paragon, G Floor. Visit fb.com/tarrtarrthailand for more info.
