Rookie Yin soars with a 65 for second-round lead in Incheon
>> INCHEON: LPGA Tour rookie Angel Yin fired six birdies and one eagle to storm into the sole lead in the second round of the Hana Bank Championship yesterday.
The 19-year-old American shot a sizzling seven-under-par 65 to post an 11-under total of 133, rising to the top of the leaderboard at the star-studded event that features the game’s top three players.
The highlight of the day came when Yin hit a 6-iron to 12 feet on the par-five, fifth hole and sank the eagle putt.
“That got everything started,” Yin, who turned pro last year, said after the round at the SKY72 Golf & Resort.
“I made a few pars at the beginning, but that eagle just fired me up.”
Local f avourite Chun In-Gee carded a 65 for a total of 135 to share second place with world No.2 Park Sung-Hyun and Ko Jin-Young.
Top-ranked Ryu So-Yeon scored a 68 for a total of 140 to lie 18th, while world No.3 Lexi Thompson made a 69 for 138 to stay 13th.
World No.6 Ariya Jutanugarn of Thailand improved to a 71 for 145 to lie joint 50th.
Pornanong Phatlum, the other Thai in the event, shot a 75 for 147.
