‘We’ precedes ‘I’ in Asics Relay
Running enthusiasts have two weeks to prepare for the “Asics Relay Bangkok 2017”, which will take place at Rama VIII Bridge in Bangkok on Dec 2 at 7pm.
This is the fourth and final leg of the “Asics Relay 2017” series, which kicked off in Jakarta, Indonesia on Aug 19, continued in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Oct 7 and is in Singapore on Nov 4.
It is open to all and mixed teams of four runners with two distances to choose from — a 21km half marathon and a 42km full marathon.
Each team member will compete in a relay race over the same racecourse of 5.25km for the half marathon and two legs of 5.25km for the full marathon. The route will be complimented by the sights of Wat Intharawihan, a 14th-century temple famous for its 32m-tall gold Buddha statue, and the Bang Khun Phrom Palace, a magnificent European-style structure that houses the Bank of Thailand Museum.
The relay series is aimed to be a fun and bonding running experience for anyone interested in the sport — fitness explorers, adventure seekers, health enthusiasts and recreational participants.
Three thousand teams across the four cities are expected to participate the series, with more than 1,850 teams reportedly joining the past three races — around 400 teams in Jakarta, 550 teams in Kuala Lumpur and 900 teams in Singapore.
Teams that clock the fastest timing in each of the half and full marathon race categories will be awarded prizes worth from 11,300 to 37,000 baht. The overall champion teams will be announced in Bangkok and they will receive travel vouchers worth US$3,000 (73,000 baht).
The registration fee is 2,800 baht for the half marathon and 3,200 baht for the full marathon.
