Novotel Suvarnabhumi Hotel is investing 360 million baht for renovation, seeking to increase its revenue from 800 million baht last year to reach 1 billion in 2020.

Chaiwat Utaiwan, chairman of the hotel’s operator Suvarnabhumi Airport Hotel Co, said Novotel Suvarnabhumi registered revenue of more than 800 million baht last year with profit of 140 million baht, a 74.3% rise from 2015.

Last year’s profit was the highest for the hotel in 11 years.

Mr Chaiwat said the hotel is investing 360 million baht for a big renovation that has already begun and is expected to be completed within the next two years.

“The renovation covers all guest rooms, public areas and new facilities,” said Mr Chaiwat.

“Some new services will be included, such as a sports bar, which we hope will draw attention from guests or travellers who like to watch sports while they are waiting for flights.”

The hotel will also create new technology and innovation for marketing in order to reach more clients globally as well as to provide convenience to modern travellers.

The hotel is offering “24 Hours Flexi”, allowing guests to check in and check out at any time within 24 hours and be charged for one day. Average room rates start at over 2,000 baht per 24-hour stay.

Under the scheme, 3-9-hour stay periods are also offered; prices depend on room type and length of stay, but the minimum rate is 1,800 baht for a three-hour stay.

The hotel is running an average occupancy rate of 80%, similar to last year’s rate.

Novotel Suvarnabhumi Hotel is not focusing on a specific customer group as it is located at the airport and has access to various types of customers.

According to Mr Chaiwat, the hotel aims to increase revenue to reach 1 billion baht in the next three years or in 2020 after renovation is complete.

The 612-room airport hotel opened in October 2003 under Suvarnabhumi Airport Hotel Co. All of shareholders in the company are private organisations, including Airports of Thailand, the operator of Suvarnabhumi airport, which holds 60% of the company, Thai Airways International Plc (30%), and Krungthai Bank Plc (10%).

The hotel is being managed by hotel chain Novotel, a brand under the French group Accor Hotels.
