A photographic glimpse of Russia

-

Siam Paragon is hosting “In The Cradle Of The Russian Civilization”, a photo exhibition that will allow viewers to explore Russia and its people, on M floor, from today to Jan 30.

Organised by the Embassy of the Russian Federation to the Kingdom of Thailand, the exhibition is to mark the 121st anniversary of Russia-Thai diplomatic relations, which started when King Rama V visited Russia during his first tour to Europe in 1897.

On display for the first time are a collection of 103 photos that provide a glimpse of the artfully crafted monumental landmarks and beautiful people of Russia as captured through the lens of Hong Kong-born, Bangkok-based photographer David Lau, who was ranked the world’s seventh-best photographer by the Photographic Society of America in 1981.

The photos were taken during his two-week trip to Moscow, St Petersburg and Vladimir in July, 2016. They show the imposing Kremlin, the picturesque St Basil’s Cathedral and the architectural spectacles inside the famed Red Square of Moscow.

The marvellously and lavishly detailed interior of the Grand Palace is also portrayed alongside photos taken on the streets of Moscow, allowing one to see the juxtaposition of different cultural clothing, priests and the friendly people of Russia.

A troupe of musicians and dancers will be flown in from Russia to perform at the opening ceremony this afternoon. They will give more cultural performances from Friday until Sunday.

There is no admission fee. Call 081-824-8288.
