Honda on a roll in the region

Honda aims to continue providing customers in Asia and Oceania with high-quality products to maintain the strong sales momentum from 2017.

Asian Honda Motor Co, the Bangkokbas­ed regional headquarte­rs overseeing Asia and Oceania, announced yesterday that Honda achieved its best-ever sales in the region last year with 793,636 cars, a 12% increase from the 2016 sales volume of 707,951 units.

The Japanese carmaker also set all-time annual sales records in five countries: Malaysia, the Philippine­s, Vietnam, Taiwan and Pakistan.

Honda in Indonesia had the most sales in Asia and Oceania, with 180,971 cars sold, although that was down 5% year-on-year.

India came in second place with 179,451 cars sold last year, up 9% from the previous year.

Sales from I ndonesia and I ndia accounted f or 23% each of Honda’s overall Asia and Oceania sales.

Thailand ranked third for Honda’s regional sales with 127,768 units, an increase of 19% from 2016.

Honda has a neutral business outlook for 2018 in the Thai market, forecastin­g sales of 127,000 units.

Honda in Malaysia recorded an all-time sales high of 109,511 units, marking the first time Honda achieved sales of more than 100,000 units in the country, which ranks fourth in the region.

For sales by model, Honda City made the greatest contributi­on to 2017’s regional sales, accounting for 21% with 169,124 units sold.

Global models HR-V and Jazz were also well-received across the region, with strong sales of 102,182 and 99,534 units, respective­ly.

Honda has 11 subsidiari­es and 11 distributo­rs for its automobile business in Asia and Oceania.
