Dance and cultural activities on order for Chinese New Year at CentralWorld
A number of grand and exquisite cultural performances from China will be staged as part of “The Great Chinese New Year 2018: The World Of Blessing” at the Central Court of CentralWorld, Ratchadamri Road, from today until Sunday.
Collectively called “The Blessing Show”, this is a collaboration with the China Cultural Center which brings different kinds of Chinese cultural shows by famous groups from across China to perform in Bangkok. Each day will feature a pair of performances starting at 7pm.
The opening show today is the “Chinese Red Lanterns” dance, which tells joyous stories of Chinese New Year through dance movements by a troupe from Hangzhou. It will be followed by a plate dance from Xinjiang, with performers dancing to the music of stringed instruments while holding plates.
Reserved for tomorrow and Thursday will be an acrobatic show where the acrobats from Hebei will display their strength and flexibility while performing beautiful and difficult movements. The show is paired with the “Chinese Yo-Yo” performance, wherein performers alternately throw and grab a yo-yo in the air or let it swing through their legs and somersault before grabbing it, along with many similar feats.
Another troupe from Hebei will present the popular “Flying Kites” dance, often performed in the spring, and the “Jumping Fish” show to present wishes of prosperity to audiences on Wednesday and Friday.
Exclusively on Saturday, the audiences will be treated with martial-arts and acrobatic shows from Hunan, a dramatic-arts performance from Zhejiang, folk music from Shanxi and another dramatic arts show from Hubei, starting at 2pm. The last day will feature a guzheng (Chinese zither) performance at 1.30pm.
