Rose: From an abysmal ranking of No 38 last year, all the way up to No 36 on the 2018 list of the world’s best airports, the Bangkok International Airport at Suvarnabhumi. Singapore was first on the annual Skytrax list, Incheon second. The Cobra Swamp facility came in as better than Toronto but not as good as Cincinnati.

Caught: While making “up-skirt” videos in London, 27-year-old Regent College student Pratyayoud Tupchareon. He is the son of ex-SRT governor and current junta-appointed NLA member Youdtana, and judge Juitpon. He pleaded it was his first time. The English judge let him off, although with a curfew and a fine of £170, or 7,500 baht in real money.

Busted: In a joint Thai-United Arab Emirates police operation, a Dubai prostitution ring. A second raid crushed a call centre involving Thais. Dubai police detained 23 Thai women who will be released and deported, and a Taiwanese pimp, who already is a fugitive under Taiwanese law. The rescuers didn’t bother with a second, quite luxurious Dubai home said to shelter a Thai male fugitive and his equally Thai fugitive sister.

Hired: By Thammasat University as a lecturer, Kathawut “Kath” Khangpiboon — finally. This age’s best-known transgender had been hired before, but terminated by the university before she began work. Thammasat said she was too outspoken and rude, and cited photos of her using a penis-shaped lipstick. But then Kath won an Administrative Court lawsuit, promised publicly to tone down showtime, and the university relented.

Killed: In Tempe, Arizona, while jaywalking, the first pedestrian fatality of an autonomous car. The Uber self-driving vehicle failed to detect the homeless woman before it ran her down. Uber halted all testing of autonomous vehicles. A Tesla autonomous car ran into a truck and killed its attendant last year.
