RELAX AND REFILL

BETTER MOON CAFÉ X REFILL STATION WILL KEEP YOU COMING BACK

- STORY & PHOTOS ERIC E SURBANO

Better Moon Café x Refill Station has a peculiar sounding/looking name. The first part is pretty straightforward, the second refers to their eco-friendly programme where customers can bring plastic containers to be refilled with different products ranging from shower gel to dishwashing liquid. They’re also a guesthouse. We’ve featured their refill station in a previous issue, but since we’re Guru, we couldn’t just pass up on giving their café’s menu a try.

Better Moon Café offers a generous spread of drinks and a handful of dishes and desserts. One of their highlights, in our opinion, is their selection of teas. Customers can choose from a variety of ingredients like lavender and lemongrass and mix their own tea (B75) and the drink will be served piping hot in a small glass teapot, or you can have it iced (B85). Alternatively, you can make your own tea blend and brew it at home.

The merciless Bangkok sun can really drain you. Fortunately, Better Moon Café has the Butterfly pea lime & honey soda (B75) to freshen you up. The sweet purple soda gives you the sugar rush and refreshing cool-off you desperately need in the afternoon. We do realise that we haven’t talked about coffee and it wouldn’t be a café without it. The Better Moon milk coffee (B110) is brewed using coffee beans from northern Thailand and is a welcome comfort drink on a hot day (which is pretty much everyday). But what elevates this drink is the crispy rice cake drizzled in caramel placed on top. Take a bite of the cake and a sip of the drink and you’ve got yourself a pretty good combo. If you want something healthy yet delicious, the Guava and carrot cold pressed juice (B80) is your best bet. Sugarless, with a little ice added to it, the juice is refreshing and pretty dang tasty.

Aside from their drinks, we also gave a few of their dishes a try. The Vegetarian egg sandwich (B75) is a great light meal. Its spicy sauce on the side gives it a bit of a kick while the rocket leaves’ crunchiness contrasts with the bread’s soft texture. There’s also the Grilled pork salad (B95), which is served with a sauce that gives the dish an elevated taste.

Relaxing and eco-friendly, Better Moon Café x Refill Station is a pretty great haven for a light brunch, a study/work sesh or as a refuge from the blistering heat.

Better Moon Café x Refill Station is open daily from 8am-10pm and is on Sukhumvit 77/1 near BTS On Nut. Visit fb.com/bettermoonshop.
