>> More than 500 cats from 50 countries worldwide will be presented at the CFA International Asia Cat Show 2018.

The event showcases a host of pedigree varieties guaranteed by awards from various foreign competitions.

The highlights of the show are a pedigree cat competition and a pet cat contest.

Thai cat breeds, hybrid and neutered cats will also be allowed to take part in the fun show this year for the first time.

In addition, free health check-ups and rabies vaccinations will be provided for cats by a team from iVET Animal Hospital.

The public could join the event free of charge. It was held from March 16-18 at BCC Hall, CentralPlaza Ladprao in Bangkok

Thailand recently faced an outbreak of rabies, forcing state agencies to come up with preventive measures against the deadly virus.

Among the proposed measures is a pet tax which has been implemented in countries where owners possessing more than three pets are required to a pay levy.

Responding to the proposal, pet owners in Thailand suggested the government focus on having all pets registered first in order to regulate their number.

According to media reports last month, Bangkok was among 31 provinces that have been declared “temporary epidemics” and formed part of the rabies-prone areas that altogether cover 42 provinces. In the capital, authorities this week detected six rabies cases in four districts — Don Muang, Bang Khen, Bang Sue and Chatuchak.

The 13 red-zone provinces are scattered in every region: Chon Buri, Samut Prakan, Chachoengsao and Rayong in the Central region and East; Nan, Chiang Rai, and Tak in the North; Surin, Buri Ram, Ubon Ratchathani, Rot Et and Si Sa Ket in the Northeast; and Songkhla in the South.
