It’s a high five for cool Udorn in Hua Hin

-

Veteran Udorn Duangdecha captured his fifth All Thailand Tour title by winning the Singha Hua Hin Open in Prachuap Khiri Khan yesterday.

The 47-year-old Udorn shot an even par 71 in the final round to finish on nine-under 273, one stroke ahead of Prom Meesawat, who also shot a 71 yesterday at the Royal Hua Hin Golf Course.

Prayad Marksaeng, who was a runner-up at the Singha Masters a couple of weeks ago, came third on five-under 277 after a two-under 69.

Udorn took home 300,000 baht for his first win at Royal Hua Hin layout in 23 years. Hua Hin native Prom received 185,000 baht.

Udorn’s previous wins on the ATGT were the Being Championship 2010, the Singha Pattaya Open 2010, the Singha E San Open 2011 and the All Thailand Premier 2016.

“Wow, 23 years is a long time,” said the Chiang Mai native. “I am so happy and this is the best gift for my new wife,” added Udorn, who got married recently.

Udorn, who held a one-shot advantage overnight, opened with a birdie and managed to keep his nose ahead all the way through while the 33-year-old Prom had a rollercoaster round of five birdies, three bogeys and a double bogey.

“I had the same game plan as yesterday... just tried to be patient,” said Udorn, who admitted that the windy conditions in the seaside town has made it difficult for him to hit the approach shots.

“Fortunately I had a good start with a birdie and Prom had a bogey so that made it easier for me.

“We all had problems with the wind but it’s just that Prom made more mistakes than I did,” said Udorn.
