Illuminating the skin through filmed landscapes
La Prairie’s patronage of contemporary art included its participation in Art Basel Hong Kong, held at the end of March, when the Swiss luxury skincare brand unveiled Julian Charrière’s short film Light Upon An Imaginary Space, screened as part of an illuminating installation at its pavilion.
The collaboration with Berlin-based Charrière explores the power of light from an artist’s perspective, parallel to La Prairie’s science of light in illuminating the skin embodied in the newly launched White Caviar Crème Extraordinaire.
The intrepid Swiss artist is known for the photography of natural landscapes in remote places. The latest cinematic project took him on an expedition to isolated icy locations as well as glaciers in the Swiss Alps, where the filming primarily took place at night under lighting from a drone’s spotlight.
Another drone equipped with a camera hovered over the ice and snow to capture the frozen landscape. The months of filming resulted in the narrative that without light, there is no knowledge of the land.
On the other hand, from years of research and the screening of 50,000 ingredients, La Prairie scientists identified Lumidose, which tackles the formation of dark spots due to excessive melanin production.
The skin-brightening molecule and a smart delivery system are featured in White Caviar Crème Extraordinaire, which complements Illuminating Pearl Infusion in combating skin discolouration.
The cream and serum as well as other formulas under the White Caviar range also contain skin-firming golden caviar extract.
Associated with luxurious ingredients, La Prairie first incorporated an extract from the fish-egg delicacy in Skin Caviar beads introduced in 1987.
Last year’s 30th anniversary of the lifting/firming skincare range was marked by “The Art Of Caviar” exhibition, which featured works by Coudamy, Bonjour Interactive Lab, TremensS and Cinq Fruits that reflected on key products under the Skin Caviar collection.
Likewise, White Caviar Crème Extraordinaire is reflected in Charrière’s film, which is an edit inspired by the power of light, and part of a longer project supported by La Prairie.
