Salon attackers lose last appeal
The Supreme Court yesterday upheld jail terms of 33 years and four months for four men from the South who were found guilty of a bombing outside a beauty salon on Ramkhamhaeng Road in Bangkok five years ago.
They include three residents of Pattani — Affaham Sa-a, Kamphi Latae and Ilroheng Vaemae — and Idris Sapator of Narathiwat.
Prosecutors initially charged them with attempted premeditated murder, dangerous bombing, illegal production and possession of explosives, and illegal transport of weapons in public.
They were convicted of placing a bomb at a garbage collection spot in front of the August beauty salon on Soi Ramkhamhaeng 43/1 in Bang Kapi district on the night of May 26, 2013.
The subsequent explosion injured seven people and caused damage worth 402,000 baht to local stalls and buildings.
On March 20, 2015, the Criminal Court sentenced the men to 50 years in jail for attempted premeditated murder and production and possession of explosives. It also fined them 60 baht each for carrying a weapon in public.
The sentences were commuted from life imprisonment and a fine of 90 baht because their testimony was useful.
All four men appealed.
On June 30, 2016, the Appeal Court found them guilty of using an explosive to kill others and sentenced them to 33 years and four months in prison.
