FA Cup first round pits top two

- TOR CHITTINAND

Thai League 1 leaders Buriram United will host second-placed Bangkok United in the first round (last 64) of the FA Cup following yesterday’s draw.

Defending T1 champions Buriram are only two points ahead of the capital side as the league is taking a mid-season break and will resume on June 9.

Four-time FA Cup winners Buriram have signed Osvaldo Filho who is likely to team up with fellow Brazilian forward Diogo Luis Santo in the second leg of the season.

Bangkok United yesterday unveiled two new signings — midfielder Thossawat Limwannasathian from SCG Muang Thong United and defender Wanchai Jarunongkran from Air Force Central.

In another FA Cup match, champions Chiang Rai United face a tricky match at fellow T1 club Nakhon Ratchasima.

Muang Thong will be at home against Thai League 2 leaders Nongbua Pitchaya, while Suphanburi will host Ratchaburi.

All matches of the last-64 round will be played on June 27.

Meanwhile, midfielder Chanathip Songkrasin joined the national team’s training camp yesterday.

The War Elephants are training at the Le Meridien Suvarnabhumi hotel ahead of their friendly against China at Rajamangala National Stadium on Saturday.

Chanathip is playing for Japanese club Consadole Sapporo on loan from Muang Thong. He will team up with striker Teerasil Dangda, his Muang Thong teammate who has joined Sanfrecce Hiroshima on loan from the Kirins.
