Rosewood Bangkok promises ultra-luxury

- PHUVADON GOMOL RATTANASATHIEN

Rosewood Hotel Group plans to open Rosewood Bangkok later this year as part of a five-year expansion to set up 70 ultra-luxury properties worldwide.

The Bangkok property, occupying a prime spot on Phloenchit Road, will feature 159 guest rooms. The hotel is among eight properties under the Rosewood brand scheduled to open in 2018, said Sonia Cheng, chief executive of Rosewood Hotel Group.

She said Rosewood operates 23 properties in 14 countries, with 17 more to open this year, including eight in Asia.

The continuous growth of the tourism industry prompted Rosewood Hotel Group to enlist Thailand in its prime expansion plan, hoping to introduce the group’s hotel brands such as New World Hotels & Resorts, Pentahotels and Khos to the Thai market.

The latest expansion of the group is Rosewood Luang Prabang, developed by Thai company Elysian Development Co, for 640 million baht.

The 23 rooms of the Laos property are located on a 16-rai plot and scheduled for a soft launch in March this year, targeted at high-end guests.

A high occupancy rate is targeted throughout the year for Rosewood Luang Prabang, with average room rates per night of 21,000-38,000 baht.

Vareeporn Udomkunnatum, president of Elysian Development and director of Waterfall Management Sole Co, said her company for the first time has appointed an international hotel management firm, Rosewood, to manage the luxury resort and hotel near Luang Prabang, a Unesco World Heritage Site.

Within 10 minutes’ drive of the historic city of Luang Prabang, guests will be enveloped in an ethereal, idyllic setting as the resort is completely immersed within a virtually untouched natural environment, Ms Vareeporn said.

She said Elysian Development Co is also working on Swan Lake Residence Khao Yai, a 282-unit condo project developed for 3 billion baht in Khao Yai, Nakhon Ratchasima. The project has achieved 90% in sales and is in the ownership transfer process.

Ms Vareeporn said Elysian will add a five-star hotel to the premises of Swan Lake Residence Khao Yai with 40-60 guest rooms, set to open some time in late 2019.

The company is also considering developing properties on two plots of land, one in Chiang Dao district in Chiang Mai and the other one in Phuket province, where it already has Burasari Phuket Hotel.
