IEAT, Rojana partner on EEC

The

Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT) has teamed up with Rojana Industrial Park Plc to build a new industrial zone on 843 rai of land for 2.7 billion baht.

The site is in Laem Chabang district, Chon Buri province. The IEAT will be an operating partner in the project, expecting to sell all of the land by 2021.

Suwatana Kmolwatananisa, deputy governor for corporate strategy and development, said the new location is another move under the government’s flagship Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) scheme to support demand for industrial zones from investors.

“It will be developed under an eco-industrial system, [producing] electronics, home appliances, automotive parts, digital, agricultural process and medical services,” Mrs Suwatana said. “The two sides will allocate 73% of the land for the industrial zone, while 16% will go towards infrastructure and the rest will be for green areas.”

The Laem Chabang industrial zone is set to generate 3.4 billion baht in revenue annually.

Chaipon Phornphiboon, Rojana’s assistant vice-president, said this is the company’s first such project for the EEC, serving the government’s S-curve policy.

Rojana has also applied for an industrial licence to develop its 2,000 rai plot in Nong Yai district, Chon Buri, which it expects the IEAT to grant this quarter.

“We aim to spend 3 billion baht for the development of this project,” Mr Chaipon said.

Rojana runs seven industrial zones in Ayutthaya, Prachin Buri, Chon Buri and Rayong with total industrial developments spanning 4,500 rai.

Mrs Suwatana said the IEAT has already developed 12,000 rai of land in the EEC provinces of Chachoengsao, Chon Buri and Rayong.

Some 50% of that land has been reserved for sale, which the IEAT attributes to the 2018 EEC Act and the government’s stimulus measures, including roadshows for foreign investors.

Recently, two industrial developers, Rojana and CP Land, applied for licences to develop and operate new industrial zones in the EEC.

“Rojana has applied for the Nong Yai project, while CP Land has applied for 3,000 rai in Chon Buri,” Mrs Suwatana said.

The IEAT has a further 30,000 rai that has yet to be developed. Of that land, the authority has already entered an agreement with Amata Corporation to develop a Smart Park Industrial Estate on 11,258 rai in Ban Khai district, Rayong and Chon Buri.
