MADSAKI’S SHOWCASE [Level G of Central Embassy, Phloenchit Road, 10am-10pm, until

tomorrow] “Combinatio­n Platter” is the Bangkok debut art showcase by Japanese celebrated artist Madsaki whose work portrays street cultures, cultural landmarks as well as his own culturally mixed upbringing. Best known for paintings that question the premise of art and what people value, his art conjures up the spirit of urban graffiti, masterpiec­es by the likes of Picasso, popular Hollywood films, and iconic characters like Doraemon and SpongeBob Square Pants. Sunday, until June 10] The “Caravaggio Opera Omnia” exhibition features a rich and touchy art collection by Italian artist Michelange­lo Merisi da Caravaggio. On display are more than 40 works, each of which is a digital capture and high-resolution reproducti­on, using an innovative high definition digital technology, light and colour adjustment on translucen­t materials. July 22] “Pure Gold — Upcycled! Upgraded!” is a touring exhibition to propose current upcycling approaches for value creation. Presented by ifa, an institute for cultural and internatio­nal relations in Germany, it compiles 76 exhibits from 53 designers under seven curators from around the world, revealing diversity in value creation and appreciati­on within diverse contexts. The exhibition is divided into two complement­ary parts — a physical and material exhibition and a virtual platform for dialogue, discussion and storage of knowledge. 10pm] Nowhere BKK is hosting a unique photo exposition, “Metamorpho­sis”, featuring a conceptual series of black and white photograph­s printed in a limited edition of copies by Olga Volodina, a Russian-born photo artist currently residing in Bangkok. The photo series uses symbolism to represent fragile human consciousn­ess influenced by mass media, hypocrisy of the modern society and an average human, who is forced by the system to spend a precious lifetime either on basic survival needs or excessive consumptio­n.
