Asus targets gaming segment
Taiwanese computer and mobile handset maker Asus plans to double its market share in gaming products locally to 60% this year.
The total gaming notebook market in the country is expected to grow by 20%, while mobile gaming devices are pegged to grow 30% this year, said Rex Lee, chief marketing officer and Asia-Pacific general manager of Asus Global Pte.
Asus recently launched a new product line-up at Computex 2018 in Taiwan.
The highlight of its gaming products is the latest series of Republic of Gamers (ROG) laptops and accessories.
The company introduced ROG, Asus’s sub-brand dedicated to the world’s gaming hardware and software, in 2006. ROG offers a complete line of innovative products, including motherboards, graphics cards, laptops, desktops, monitors, audio equipment, routers and peripherals.
The ROG gaming smartphone comes with a 3D vapor-chamber cooling system and ROG Delta headset with USB-C connectivity to deliver unparalleled mobile gaming.
Mr Lee said Asus plans to deliver the ROG smartphone to Thailand in September this year, hoping it will shake up the gaming community in the country.
“Thailand is a top three market in Asia-Pacific for Asus, following India and Indonesia, he said.
Last year, there were some 20 million games downloaded on mobile devices in Thailand. The most popular games were ROVs by Garena, Free Fire and 7 Knights.
At the event, Asus launched ROG Delta, the latest ROG gaming headset, the ROG phone and accessories, and the latest ZenBook Pro series with an interactive screen pad.
In addition to its notebooks, Asus revealed VivoWatch BP, a wearable bloodpressure monitor equipped with Asus HealthAI technology that analyses the wearer’s blood pressure measurements and daily lifestyle habits to provide recommendations for controlling blood pressure.
The company unveiled a special sneak peek of Project Precog, a concept device that claims to be the world’s first convertible dual-screen notebook equipped with artificial intelligence (AI) features, which will be available next year.
According to Asus, Project Precog is designed to provide a smooth and intuitive experience for industry-leading AI technologies.
