THE PHOTO BOOTH
ELUSIVE METRE: 4/5 HOW TO FIND:
This new speakeasy has been making the rounds across social media, where people have been dropping hints on its whereabouts. However, since you are reading this we will try to help out a bit in finding (just don’t tell anyone). Head to Sukhumvit 11 and be on the lookout for the 8 on Eleven gastro bar and restaurant. At the second floor of this establishment is Score Bar where you can sit down and watch a game of football or play some beer pong with your fellow mates. However, looking past all that, on the other end of the bar is an actual photo booth. We will stop ourselves from revealing anymore details but like a secret entrance in a spy movie, be sure to say cheese when you’re at the photo booth.
WHY YOU SHOULD VISIT:
Founded by the same team behind Find the Locker Room in Thong Lor, this bar has a unique concept in that its entrance is concealed by the use of an actual photo booth, not to mention being located inside another bar. The bar relies heavily through word-of-mouth, as well as the use of the hashtag #FindThePhotoBooth appearing across social media as a way of dropping hints for curious bar patrons to figure out and discover this secret pub. We bet you will react with a big WOW or something similar to that end when you manage to unlock the entrance, and if not then we will buy you drink (note: GURU reserves to take back, terminate, or refuse this deal).
Step inside this bar and move past what looks a darkroom with Polaroid photos scattered across the room, The Photo Booth has an extensive list of classic cocktails on offer from a menu that resembles a photo album. With each classic cocktail, The Photo Booth also has a corresponding Thai-influenced take on each drink. For example, you can sip the Vesper martini (B360), or you can try the Thai alternative Bond loved jasmine, which replaces the blanco vermouth with a jasmine vermouth sprinkled with chrysanthemum bitters. Or how about ordering a glass of 20th century cocktail (B360) gin and comparing it with the Thai version, hilariously named Sorry, only BTS this century (B390), where gin is infused with coconut blended with hazelnut to retain its nutty flavour.
