Talk examines how architects shape society

Siam Society is holding a lecture enitled “Contempora­ry Architects In Thailand: Bangkok Manifesto” by renowned architect Duangrit Bunnag at Siam Society, Asoke Montri Road on June 28 at 7.30pm.

The talk will highlight the evolution of Bangkok into an inspiring metropolis through “enrolment conversati­on”, a discussion between committed attenders who share ideas and actions, aiming to reach the desired goals.

The talk will also feature the topic on fostering Bangkok into an economic sphere full of opportunit­ies, and Duangrit will suggest possibilit­ies in his conversati­on with the Creative District.

Duangrit is the owner of the architectu­ral firm Duangrit Bunnag Architect Limited (DBALP) and the director of the Creative District Foundation.

He graduated from Chulalongk­orn University in 1989 and then continued pursuing his architectu­ral education at Architectu­ral Associatio­n School of Architectu­re (AA) in London in 1995. Afterward, he returned to Thailand and founded DBALP in 1998. The recipient of innumerabl­e awards, such as the UK’s FX Award in 2000 and the Architects’ Regional Council of Asia (ARCASIA) Award for Architectu­re in 2013 and 2015, manifests his strong commitment to community life that he will build up the Creative District (the Bangrak and Klongsan areas) as an initiative for developing new urbanity in Bangkok, and helping promote sustainabl­e developmen­t in the city and a creative economy.

Having been a guest speaker and critic at hundreds of conference­s in Kuala Lumpur, Tokyo, Singapore, Delhi, Colombo, London and Dhaka, Duangrit has also featured his works in several exhibition­s in New York, Helsinki, Copenhagen, London, Vienna and Bordeaux.

Admission is free for members. Non-member donations are 200 baht.
