Tigers lose game, Cabrera
DETROIT: Ehire Adrianza smacked his first career grand slam, lifting the Minnesota Twins past the hosts Detroit Tigers 6-4 on Tuesday night.
The bigger loss for the Tigers, was Miguel Cabrera. The veteran first baseman left the game in the third inning with ruptured left biceps tendon, and he will undergo seasonending surgery.
Cabrera sustained the injury on a swing and miss at a Jake Odorizzi breaking pitch.
Adrianza’s seventh-inning homer, his third of the season, gave the Twins a three-run lead. Adrianza had three hits and scored twice.
Didi Gregorius homered twice, leading New York past visiting Washington 3-0.
Gregorius recorded his fourth career multi-homer game and third this season. He set a team record for multi-homer games by a shortstop in a single season and homered for the first time since May 23.
CC Sabathia (4-1) allowed four hits in 5 2/3 innings and became the fifth pitcher to get 1,500 strikeouts for the Yankees. He joined Andy Pettitte, Ron Guidry, Whitey Ford and Red Ruffing.
