FSS shines light on Vietnam
With a growing economy and rising purchasing power, Finansia Syrus Securities (FSS) is encouraging Thais to invest in Vietnamese securities via a digital channel through a partnership with VN Direct Securities.
Pornpring Suksantisuwan, president and head of products for FSS, said the company has signed a memorandum of understanding with its Vietnamese counterpart to provide the first internet trading of Vietnamese securities in Thailand via “VNtrade”.
FSS invited leading listed companies from Vietnam’s stock market, including Hua Phat Group Joint Stock Company, Vingroup Joint Stock Company and Vincom Retail Joint Stock Company to provide information to investors at “Vietnam Opportunity Day 2018”, held last week.
It was the first event held in Thailand to specifically provide information on listed companies abroad to retail investors, unlike past events where they tended to cater to institutional investors.
The objective was to help Thai investors in Vietnam’s stock market obtain more information to make better investment decisions, as well as boost investor confidence in the company’s overseas stock trading system, said Mrs Pornpring.
Vietnam’s medium and small-cap stocks have high growth prospects in the second half because of the country’s robust economic growth outlook, she said.
FSS is the only securities brokerage in Thailand providing Vietnamese securities trading online. Investors can submit trading orders by themselves.
Anirban Lahiri, head of research at VN Direct Securities, said the investment outlook in Vietnam’s stock market in the second half is expected to be more robust than the first six months.
“Despite the correction of the VN index this quarter because of its tremendous 20% rise in the first quarter, our investment strategy is still focused on mid- and small-cap stocks or potential initial public offerings for good businesses with suitable valuations to handle a slight bump in inflation there,” said Mr Lahiri.
“We are also keeping an eye on rising global interest rates.”
