Waldorf Astoria opens doors Aug 30

- SUCHAT SRITAMA

The Waldorf Astoria Bangkok will make its grand opening on Aug 30, targeting foreign guests and providing conference facilities for local events.

General manager Simeon Olle said the hotel has already recruited 350 staff ahead of the grand opening, which was postponed from last year.

The 171-room hotel is located on levels 6-16 and 55-57 of the 60-story Magnolias Ratchadamri Boulevard, a mixed-use highrise project in the Ratchaprasong area.

Mr Olle said the hotel will focus on two markets. The first is international visitors, particularly from China, Hong Kong, the US, Australia and Singapore. The second is local clients seeking venues for weddings, training courses, dining and other private functions.

“With only 171 rooms, the hotel is not aiming for the meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions business,” Mr Olle said. “But we will provide guests personalised service with our strong, iconic brand.”

The hotel said St Regis, Siam Kempinski and Park Hyatt are its main competitors in the area.

Waldorf Astoria Hotels and Resorts is a luxury brand under Hilton’s premier brand portfolio, including 30 hotels and resorts worldwide.

“Waldorf Astoria Bangkok will mark the brand’s first foray into Southeast Asia,” said Daniel Welk, vice-president for operations, luxury and lifestyle at Hilton Asia-Pacific.

In line with the Waldorf Astoria’s commitment to culinary expertise, the Waldorf Astoria Bangkok is primed to be a dining destination in itself, with a chef from a Michelin-starred restaurant in Europe managing its restaurant, Mr Welk said.
