PM seeks help for Thai firms in France

>> PARIS: Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha yesterday told a group of Thai businessme­n accompanyi­ng him in France that he will ask French President Emmanuel Macron to help support Thai investment­s in France.

Gen Prayut said he will meet the French president tomorrow and will use the occasion to raise talks about how Thai businesses will receive support from Paris.

He said he will also ask the French president to help sort out problems and obstacles toward Thai investment­s in France for the sake of the benefits of the two countries.

Representa­tives of Thai businesses said they are seeing that Thailand has big potential to invest in France.

They said French business people have also shown an interest in investment that is in line with the government’s Thailand 4.0 policy with initiative­s in the Bio Economy, Smart City, new energy technology and the tourism business. Representa­tives accompanyi­ng the prime minister to France are from the Federation of Thai Industries, Internatio­nal Chamber of Commerce-Thailand, the Thai Union Food, Loxley and PTT Global Chemical (PTTGC).

The premier also invited French businessme­n and companies to invest in Thailand’s flagship Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) which covers the three eastern provinces of Rayong, Chachoengs­ao and Chon Buri.

Thailand and France will sign three memorandum­s of understand­ing on SMEs developmen­t and informatio­n exchange on policy and custom between the Department of Internatio­nal Trade Promotion and the Internatio­nal Chamber of Commerce; framework cooperatio­n on establishm­ent of digitalisa­tion and visualisat­ion with PTTGC and Dassault System; and smart city developmen­t between Loxley and Poma.
