Relive the good old days at 70s revival
Seacon Square on Srinakarin Road invites everyone to relive the good old days of Bangkok during the “70s Once More” fair, which is running until Sunday.
The Main Atrium on the first floor is transformed into Wang Burapha, the thenhip community for youngsters who were influenced by the hippie movement in the US. This is also a chance to witness the atmosphere of Talat Ming Muang, a popular market frequented by actresses, singers and members of the public who were looking for artisan tailors.
Three other landmarks in the community are presented to bring visitors in their 50s and 60s back to the “good old days”: King’s Cinema, one of the most glamorous cinemas at the time that only screened films from abroad; Nightingale-Olympic department store which still exists today; and Chayachitrakorn photo shop whose customers included high-ranking politicians.
Adding to the contemporary ambience of the fair are grocery stores, peddlers and street stalls that offer savoury and sweet dishes of yesteryear such as traditional desserts, cotton candy from coin-operated machines, frozen egg ice cream, clay-pot sweets and traditional fizzy drinks. Souvenirs, music CDs, musical instruments and tin toys also are available.
There will be concerts featuring rock and disco music of the 70s to be performed by professional bands: Balloons on Friday starting at 4.45pm, AC 93 and Fruity on Saturday at 2.30pm, and The Betters and President on Sunday at 2pm.
The fair will move to delight visitors at Seacon Bangkae on Phetkasem Road during Aug 10-19.
