Premier trumpets plan to let people know of govt success

- POST REPORTERS

The Interior Ministry will ramp up efforts to make people aware of the governmentdriven Pracharat campaign, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has said.

Pracharat is the government’s muchtouted initiative calling on all sectors of society to join hands in strengthening the country and boosting its competitiveness.

Gen Prayut said his administration has tackled various chronic problems and embarked on policies which are driving down social inequality.

As various problems have been solved, people must be made aware of the progress, he said, adding that many still complain without knowing that their problem has been fixed.

“Ways to boost public awareness must be adjusted and the Interior Ministry will add communication channels to people in all tambons, villages and areas,” the premier said, adding even the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration must find ways to perform this function.

Gen Prayut said the government is also in the process of drafting laws regarding the Pracharat scheme to ensure that related work is properly handled.

The prime minister was speaking as he presided over the opening ceremony of the “Thailand Social Expo 2018” event at IMPACT Muang Thong Thani in Nonthaburi province yesterday to showcase the government’s social achievements.

Gen Prayut said it is important to create equal opportunities for those with low incomes whilst adhering to international standards of democracy.

“The government spends 40% of the national budget on tackling inequality without relying on unjustified populist policies,” the premier said.

He said the administration will roll out a housing scheme for low-income earners, which will be handled by the National Housing Authority, adding the scheme is expected to help 2.7 million households to have their own home by 2036.

Gen Prayut stressed the government had worked hard over the past three or four years to address pressing problems. The country must be adjusted to suit the “Thailand 4.0” concept, he said, referring to the plan which focuses on added value, high technology and innovation.

Referring to criticism that the use of robots in line with the Thailand 4.0 concept could drive people out of jobs, Gen Prayut said robots are only brought to work alongside humans and there is no intention to cause anyone to be laid off.

Efforts must also be made to instil morality, justice and equality among in all levels of society, he said.
