Israeli experts to help boost cyber security

Israeli cyber security experts have come to Thailand to help protect the nation from the imminent threat of cyber attacks.

The Embassy of Israel hosted the “Israel Cyber Security Roadshow 2018”, in which 12 Israeli cyber security companies were welcomed to showcase their products and services to Thai companies interested in mitigating cyber attacks.

According to the Global Cybersecurity Index conducted by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), Thailand is currently the 22nd most committed country in terms of ensuring cyber security, and third in the Asean region.

“Thailand is 22nd in the world, and we are only behind Singapore and Malaysia in Asia. The next step is to improve and move further up the rankings by spreading awareness of threats that we can’t see,” said Uratchada Kateprom, deputy executive director of the Electronic Transactions Development Agency.

“We are working hard to achieve the government’s Thailand 4.0 initiative, and our robust Data Protection Law and Cyber Security Law is moving us forward in that direction. There are a variety of threats imposed by cyber attacks such as on health data which is very sensitive. We must understand the capacity of such attacks so that we can learn how to defend against them,” Ms Uratchada added.

Dagan Alony, head of the Israeli embassy’s economic and trade mission, said: “Approximately 25% of all [global] investments towards cyber security go to Israel.”
