The Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra presents the third edition of “Latin American Night” at Mahidol University’s Prince Mahidol Hall, Salaya campus, on Friday at 7pm and Saturday at 4pm.

Held to celebrate the cultural bonds of language, heritage and history shared by the countries of South and Central America and the island nations of the Caribbean, the orchestral programme will feature a tropical treasure trove from Brazil, Panama, Chile, Mexico, Argentina, Cuba and other Latin American countries.

Directed by Alfonso Scarano, the orchestra will perform Arturo Márquez’s Danzón No.2, Enrique Soro’s Danza Fantástica, Roque Cordero’s Panamanian Overture No.2 and many other rarely-heard Latin gems.

Joining the TPO as guest soloist will be soprano Betty Garces, who has led a successful career as a lyric singer at an international level. Considered by the international press as “Colombia’s operatic revelation”, she has participated in numerous recitals, concerts and productions of opera in Colombia, Ecuador, Brazil, Chile, Algeria, the US and many countries in Europe.

For her Bangkok debut, she will be singing El Dia Que Me Quieras by King of Argentinian tango Carlos Gardel as well as Violeta Parra’s most renowned song, Gracias A La Vida.

Tickets cost 400, 600, 800, 1,000 and 1,500 baht (half prices for students) and can be purchased from Thai Ticket Major outlets (visit thaiticketmajor.com or call 02-262-3456) and PMH Box Office (call 062-526-6645 or 02-8496565/6 ext 6603/4 and 6624).
