Latin vibes in concert

Colombian and world renowned lyric soprano singer Betty Garcés will stage a selection of Latin American music with the Thailand Philharmon­ic Orchestra on Friday and Saturday at Mahidol Concert Hall, Mahidol University, Salaya campus. The performanc­e will be under the baton of maestro Alfonso Scarano. The one-hour concerts will include famous songs like Besame Mucho by Mexican composer Consuelo Velasquez, interprete­d in the past by Frank Sinatra, Plácido Domingo and The Beatles and El Dial Que Me Quieras by the Argentinia­n legend Carlos Gardel among other surprises. In addition, the orchestra will perform Lucho Bermúdez’s emblematic compositio­n, Colombia Tierra Querida and Arturo Márquez’s La Conga Del Fuego as well among other surprises. For the past years, the embassies of the Latin American countries in Bangkok have joined efforts with the College of Music of Mahidol University and the Thailand Philharmon­ic Orchestra to make possible a Latin American Music Night. This year’s concerts reaffirm the friendship that unite Latin American countries with the Thai people by celebratin­g their cultural bonds, such as the powerful voice of a Colombian soprano and the brilliant members of the Thailand Philharmon­ic Orchestra. The concert will start at 7pm on Friday and 4pm on Saturday. Shuttle buses offered by Mahidol University run every 30 minutes from BTS Bang Wa station. Tickets are 400, 600, 800, 1,000 and 1,500 baht with a 50% discount for children and students aged below 25 or currently studying in an undergradu­ate programme.
