Crunch time for struggling top-tier sides

- TOR CHITTINAND

Former Thai League 1 giants Police Tero travel to Sattahip and a slip-up against relegated Navy could consign them to the second tier tonight.

Police, after suffering five straight loses and seeing their high-profile coach Totchtawan Sripan walk away from the team, need to win their remaining two games to stand a chance of surviving in the top flight.

Also fighting to avoid setbacks tonight will be Sukhothai, who play away at Ratchaburi, and Chainat, who face a daunting task in a home match against secondplaced Bangkok United.

Police’s chances of staying put in the top league also depend on Sukhothai losing both their matches as the two games between the sides had ended in Police favour.

Police coach Rangsan Viwatchaichok apologised to the team fans for letting Ratchaburi rally to a 2-1 win on Sunday.

“I am sorry that we couldn’t claim the precious three points from the previous match, so we have to make amends,” said Rangsan.

“For the last two matches, I will do my duty as the coach and try to motivate the players to bring out their best performance. If we are relegated then the blame is on me.

“I am not expecting an easy game. Although, Navy have already been relegated to Thai League 2, I am sure that they would want to bow out on a high note.

“We have nothing to lose now so we will be going for a win.”

Meanwhile, newly-crowned champions Buriram United can fancy a goal fest at relegated Air Force Central.
