KEEPING WEE ONES ENTERTAINED, SAFELY, ON YOUTUBE

- AKIN

Another good way for parents to make it safer and simpler for kids to explore the world through online video is by installing YouTube Kids, an app built from the ground up that brings a library of content from all over the world to families.

Introduced in 2015, YouTube Kids was only recently launched in Thailand.

The app’s family-friendly design makes it even easier to find Dek Jew Chill Out or the latest video from Kru Nok Lek. YouTube Kids now features more colour and characters who exemplify the magic of YouTube.

The app was designed to be a more family-friendly version of YouTube, a place for kids to explore their imaginations and curiosity. One can search for videos of particular interest, like Pinkfong And Baby Shark, which recently circulated through Bangkok. Checking out the historic spots, temples and even Khao San Road is also exciting.

Key features of the app are parental controls, search on/off, kid profiles, custom passcode for kids and timer.

The parent-approved content control allows parents to handpick every video and channel available to their child. Parents can always turn search off within the YouTube Kids app to limit the experience to channels. Parents can create profiles for each of their kids. Kids will enjoy having individual profiles with their videos, and all their recommendations in one place. This is especially handy on a shared device that multiple kids use.

Kids want independence, so now let them set a personal passcode to get into their profile. They can keep little brother or sister out but parents can always override their passcode to get into the app.

A built-in timer lets parents limit kids’ screen time. The app alerts your child when the session is over.

“YouTube Kids gives parents control to provide a customised and contained experience for their children to explore their endless curiosities and learn about new topics that excite them. The launch of YouTube Kids is a testament to the incredible growth of family and learning content in Thailand,” said Don Anderson, head of Family & Learning Partnerships, YouTube Asia-Pacific.

YouTube Kids has been launched in over 41 countries, receiving more than 70 billion views, over 14 million weekly active viewers, and tens of millions of downloads by families who rate it among the top five kids apps extant. It’s available for free on Google Play and in the App Store.
