Curcic gets the boot at Muang Thong United, Gama ends contract with Chiang Rai

-

>> Former Thai League 1 champions SCG Muang Thong United have sacked Serbian coach Radovan Curcic without bothering to wait for the Kirins’ last game of the season tomorrow.

They have appointed former Police Tero manager Uthai Boonmoh as the caretaker coach for the team’s league game against second-placed Bangkok United at home.

Curcic, a former manager of Serbian national and U21 teams, had landed the job in May this year after Muang Thong’s league-winning coach Totchawan Sripan resigned following a string of shock defeats.

The Serb took the Kirins from No.8 spot to fourth place in the top league, but it wasn’t enough to satisfy his bosses at Muang Thong.

Meanwhile, Chiang Rai United coach Alexandre Gama, after guiding the Beetles to this year’s FA and League Cup finals, has ended his contract with the northern club.

Miti Tiyapairat, president of Chiang Rai United, said in a Facebook post that Gama would leave the club after the two finals as the Brazilian is likely to take over the reins of the Thailand U23 team.

“We would like to thank Gama for coming and working with Chiang Rai United and bringing good success for the team,” said Miti in his post.

“Today, we thank the coach that he will help us with the two finals. Hopefully, we will win all the Cup titles this year.”

Gama joined Chiang Rai United as the head coach in 2017 and helped the team won the FA Cup last season, which earned them a place in this year’s AFC Champions League qualifying play-offs.

He is the front-runner to become the national U23 team coach.
