Jazz tribute and more at the EmQuartier

- Saowanit Nawaphan. Dr Pathorn Srikaranonda.

To mark the second anniversary of King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s passing and to express gratitude for his legendary musical artistry, the Kitarat Foundation presents the “49 In Memory... Forever In My Mind” concert at Quartier Parc, M floor of EmQuartier, Sukhumvit, from Oct 13 until 15 starting at 5pm.

A collaboration with the faculty of humanities at Kasetsart University and the Dutch embassy, the remembrance concert will feature a number of musical artists and honorary guests who will be performing the late monarch’s extraordinary compositions.

The lineup includes the world-class Dutch Swing College Band, the KU Wind Symphony from Kasetsart University, veteran saxophonist/clarinettist Dr Pathorn Srikaranonda, vocalist Saowanit “Kob” Nawaphan and the Jazzminions band.

The Dutch Swing College Band was one of the King’s favourite jazz bands. With over 70 years of history, the band started off as a small amateur act performing for the first time on the Dutch Liberation Day celebration 73 years ago, which marked the end of the occupation by Nazi Germany during World War II. Over time, and naturally with a constantly changing ensemble, they became an internationally renowned jazz act.

The early members of the band shared the same passion for jazz as the late king, who was inspired immensely by American jazz from New Orleans despite the fact that he was living in Europe.

The Dutch Swing College Band have performed all over the world, with recordings released in vinyl, cassette tape, videotape, CD, DVD and streaming since 1945. In their many decades, they have shared the stage with legendary jazz musicians such as Sidney Bechet, Joe Venuti, Rita Reys and Teddy Wilson.

There is no admission fee. Call 02-2598345 or 02-269-1000 ext 1021.
