RACE TO SAVE THE SEA TURTLES

Tomorrow will be the last day for walk-in registrati­on for the 14th “Mai Khao Marine Turtle Fun Run And Half Marathon 2018”, which will kick off at Phuket Gateway on Oct 21 from 5.30am to 8.30am.

Organised by the Mai Khao Marine Turtle Foundation and JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa, the annual fundraisin­g sports event this year is set to be even bigger and better than ever, with the fun, fitness and family-oriented affair open to members of the public of all ages.

Participan­ts can choose from a 3km family run, a 5km fun run, a 10km mini marathon, a new distance of 21km half marathon, and a VIP run.

The route for the 21km half marathon will start from Phuket Gateway and go northwest along Haad Sai Kaew beach towards Thao Thep Krasatti bridge, pass the rural road No 3006, run along the road in Pi Lai viewpoint area before looping back in front of beach club and returning along the T Baan Tha Nun to the iconic Sarasin bridge before finishing where it starts.

Trophies will be awarded to the top five finishers for males and females in each of the three races (5km, 10km and 21km), for each age group category. There will be trophies for the hotel and running club with the most participan­ts, the heaviest and the best fancy outfit. Everyone who crosses the finish line will receive a medal.

Entry fee is 400 baht for the 5km fun run; 500 baht for the 10km mini marathon, 650 baht for the 21km half marathon, 1,500 baht for VIP run and also 1,500 baht per family (two adults and maximum two children under 12 years old) for the 3km family run.

Proceeds will go towards to the Mai Khao Marine Turtle Foundation, which is committed to protecting the marine and coastal environmen­t and ecosystems for the well-being of the sea turtles that nest in the Mai Khao beach and the surroundin­g areas.

Online registrati­on is already closed and only walk-in registrati­on can be made at the foundation at JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa, from 10am to 5pm until tomorrow.
