Cops arrest three in Chinese theft gang

- POST REPORTERS

Three Chinese nationals have been arrested and charged with committing robberies at three companies in Samut Sakhon and Nakhon Pathom, according to acting Immigration Bureau (IB) chief Surachate Hakparn.

They were named as Huang Hanquin, 48, Huang Haining, 29, and Huang Jidong, 36, Pol Maj Gen Surachate said at a news conference yesterday.

It was unclear whether the three men were related.

He said the trio recently broke into STI Precision Co in tambon Pantainorasingh of Samut Sakhon’s Muang district and made off with 500,000 baht as well as 3,000,000 Japanese yen (around 900,000 baht).

Footage from CCTV cameras, led police to successfully arrest the three men, he said.

Another accomplice, identified as Wei Jinlian, 36, remains at large.

Pol Maj Gen Surachate said investigators believe the four committed similar offences at two other companies in Nakhon Pathom in September.

They burgled Fashion Food Co in tambon Khlong Mai of Sam Phran district on Sept 8, making off with 18,000 baht in cash, he said.

Seven days later, they allegedly broke into JVJ Co in tambon Nong Dindaeng of Muang district and stole a 10-baht weight gold ornament from a safe deposit box.

Mr Haining allegedly admitted to police that he and his accomplices burgled the three companies.

He said they planned to spend the money from the latest raid on gambling and drinking.

According to Pol Maj Gen Surachate, the suspects first entered Thailand on Sept 4 via the Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge in Chiang Rai.

They left the country from Suvarnabhumi airport on Sept 18 before returning last Friday. They were apprehended on Sunday.

Pol Maj Gen Surachate said the police investigation also found around 20 people from China’s Guangxi province had committed similar crimes across Thailand.

Thailand’s Action Taskforce for Information Technology Crime Suppression Center, run by the Royal Thai Police, will coordinate efforts with other agencies to hunt them down and bring them to justice, Pol Maj Gen Surachate said.
